The urgency of todayís press conference is because Tory and his party made the issue that tax payers fund all other faith schools just like public and Catholic ones as part of their platform for next election. That is why we, the concerned citizen and progressive organizations need to join our forces to push this platform back and call on the Ontario Provincial Government for one secular public system.  Itís rightful to say Tory and his party have started a dangerous game. He is compromising the rights of the child for his party to gain a more political stand.  By using the concept of multiculturalism, he is giving a free hand to religious institutes, and organized religious concerns to legally establish religious schools.

The ideological banner of his party is clearly visible and is recognizable from far. His move will create an absolute social, legal, intellectual, emotional geographical and civil apartheid in Ontario based on distinction of ethnicity and religion.

No one can deny that children grow in the family and in society according to established customs, tradition and regulation. They automatically learn to accept these ideas and customs as the norm of life. When we label them as Islamic, Jewish, Catholic and Hindu; and then legally place them under religious dogmas, traditions, the outcome of such a situation will be very obvious; it is a clear violation of childrenís rights.  Letís face it, instead of eliminating discrimination and prejudice, Tory and his party is paving the path for more segregation and isolation; denying them opportunity of associating with others; preventing the children and their family from achievement of the modern society.

The fact is that the Ontario government is facing a dilemma.  Since the government has already permitted the Catholic organization to expand their reach into both the English and French speaking school systems, Tory and his party decided to give way to other organized religious institutions that are demanding the same liberties. What is being ignored purposely,  is principle of the rights of the child and the fact that religion is the private matter of the parents and should not effect the childís civil rights.

The condition for defending any form of the freedom of the child to experience life,  the condition to protect the immunity of body and mind of the child against any violation is  to prevent the religious institutions have any upper hand on the rights of the child.

The state should take its role and that is to defend the universal and legal human rights of the child. Most certainly establishing one secular school system for all children under the age 18 will secure their rights.
